October 12, 2022 - Maine Foliage Flight
Boring Transit Home

Taxiing to runway 19L.  There's the new Control Tower, built at great expense no doubt and only used for four years.

A good shot of Hangar Five.

Passing by the Naval Air Station golf course.  I played there exactly once in my three-year tour.

The many islands southwest of Brunswick.   But no more sightseeing.  I climbed at full power to altitude, turned southwest, and set a course of home.

Passing by the city of Portland, Maine.  You can see Portland International Jetport (KPWM) right of center.  I was still climbing and had to be careful to stay out of Portlands Class C airspace.

Passing over Manchester-Boston Regional Airport.

This is what I don't like to see:  a low ground-speed.  I wanted to get this boring transit flight over with as soon as possible!  Flying over the bright foliage this morning seems like a million years ago.

ZZZ

Looking down at Clearview Airport, New Jersey.  I almost stopped just to take a break but it was only 45 minutes more to get home so I kept going.

Approaching the Delaware River.

Looking down at Vansant Airport (9N1), a public grass stirp.  You used to be able to get training and then be able to rent classic planes like Cubs and Stearmans at this airport.  I think now you can only get rides in them.

Crossing the Susquehanna with the Chesapeake Bay in sight.  Almost home.

Harford County Airport (0W3) is only 25 miles northeast of Essex Skypark yet for some reason in all the years I've been flying I've only landed here once, and that was in the Citabria.  I think they've improved the facilities at the airport quite a bit; it looks much different than I remember it.

Approaching Martin State Airport from the north.  Got my transition.

A good shot of Martin State Airport.

There's a lot of waterfront property between Martin State and Essex Skypark.

Home base in sight.  What an amazing last two days flying.  I took as many pictures in the two days as I have done on longer trips.  I'm already looking forward to next year's foliage flgiht!
